Keratoplasty

Since 2004, SAIF-OPTIMA Clinic has been treating eye diseases for adults and children successfully. And for 20 years, the main postulate of our activity has been the fight for quality in the diagnosis and treatment of patients, and not an increase in their number.

Today, the clinic offers its patients not only traditional keratoplasty, but also the newest technology of the 21st century – femtosecond laser-assisted keratoplasty on FEMTO Z8 NEO (Ziemer, Switzerland).

What is keratoplasty?

Keratoplasty is a surgical operation on the cornea aimed at restoring its shape and function, eliminating congenital and acquired defects and deformities after injuries and diseases.

This surgery consists of replacing sections of the cornea of the eye with a donor graft. It can be transplanted into the thickness of the cornea, located on the anterior layers of the cornea, or replace them.

When is keratoplasty necessary?

  • keratoconus in advanced stages;
  • various types of corneal eyesores – burn and dystrophic;
  • Congenital and acquired corneal dystrophies;
  • corneal scarring after injuries, surgeries, and infections;
  • Traumatic corneal defects.

Objectives of keratoplasty

  • Restoring or improving corneal clarity and improving visual acuity.
  • Stopping (complete or partial) the progression of the disease, repairing the damaged cornea.
  • Corneal appearance improvement and recovery

Stages of treatment

Stage 1

Comprehensive diagnostics

2-3 hours

Stage 2

Operation

The operation is performed in the “one day” mode

Stage 3

Rehabilitation period and follow-up up to 1 year

due to the peculiarities of the corneal structure.

How is the surgery performed?

  • During the operation, the surgeon uses a microsurgical instrument or femtosecond laser to form a corneal flap and separate the damaged part of the cornea.
  • In its place, donor material is implanted, which corresponds exactly to the size of the previously formed flap.
  • With the help of a special suture material, it is attached to the peripheral part of the patient’s cornea.
  • At the end of the operation, a bandage and a special protective contact lens are applied to the patient’s eye.

Results of keratoplasty

In most cases, keratoplasty results in the best results. When treating keratoconus with keratoplasty, it is possible to stop the progression of the disease and improve optical characteristi.

Advantages of Cataract Treatment at Eye Clinic SAIF-OPTIMA

Modern diagnostics

Our patients undergo a complete and high-quality examination using the most modern equipment. For this purpose we have unique devices:

  • OCT of the anterior segment on a CASIA2 tomograph (Tomey, Japan) to determine the parameters of the cornea, lens and anterior chamber angle.
  • Endothelial microscope EM-4000 Tomey for counting endothelial cells that ensure the transparency of the cornea; their condition is very important to assess before planning surgery.

Ultra-Precision Surgery

The clinic has equipped the operating room with a unique set of ophthalmic equipment for even more advanced and safest cataract surgery. This complex includes:

Unique modern equipment ZEISS CALLISTO eye – the latest system of intraoperative navigation and control of ZEISS OPMI LUMERA 700 microscope as a single unit.

Superior ZEISS optics and integrated ReScan system, which allow using the latest technology and ensure the surgeon’s precise work.

FEMTO Z8 Neo (Ziemer, Switzerland) – a modern femtosecond laser. Thanks to the use of short pulses with a high frequency, the laser can significantly reduce damage to eye tissues.

Experienced specialists

Surgeries are performed by the best specialists:

Dr. Anand Parthasarathy -a keratoplasty surgeon, member of the European and American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS/ASCRS), member of the American Academy of Ophthalmologists (AAO), member of the Indian Society of Ophthalmologists and Keratologists. He has more than 20 thousand satisfied patients.

Quality of used materials

The material for corneal restoration is selected based on world standards, repeated studies are carried out not only biological and virological, but also studies of the endothelial layer of cells, which make it possible to make a prediction about its further viability and the results of future surgery.
